Day 1: Bangkok – Paro – Thimphu

On arrival at the Paro international Airport, you will be received and escorted to your hotel by your guide from Dorji Phalam Travels.

After lunch, drive to Drugyal Dzong (the fortress of victory). To mark his victory over invading Tibetans in 1644, Zhabdrung Ngawang Namgyel built this dzong in 1647 at a strategic point where the route from Tibet enters the Paro valley. Once the invasions ceased, the route was used for trade between Tibet and Bhutan. The dzong, although in ruins, holds great historical significance. It was from this fortress that the Bhutanese repelled many Tibetan invasions. This spot offers a magnificent vista of mount Jumolhari, “Mountain of Goddess”.

Visit a typical Bhutanese farm house on the way back and drive to Thimphu (55 km) for night halt.

Day 2: Thimphu – Punakha/Wangduephodrang

Visit memorial chorten, a huge stupa built in memory of third king who reigned from 1952 –1972.

After lunch, drive to Punakha and Wangduephodrang. En-route, halt at Dochula for a hot cup of tea/coffee.  On clear day, you can see the most spectacular view of the eastern Himalayan mountain ranges. And then drive to and visit Wangduephodrang Dzong built in 1638. After lunch, visit Punakha Dzong built in 1637 AD (the former winter capital of Bhutan and present administrative seat of the district). It is also the winter residence of the central monastic body. The dzong is located at the confluence between two rivers, the Phochu and Mochu, meaning male and female rivers.

Night halt at Punakha.

Day 3. After breakfast drive to Trongsa

Visit Trongsa Dzong and other nearby place and night halt.

Day 4. From Trongsa to Paro. Sightseeing on the way.

Day 5: After breakfast trek to Taktsang

Trek to Taktsang, which is quite an uphill task. It takes about three hours, at an average speed, to climb to this monastery. The name Taktsang means “Tiger’s Nest”. The monastery is perched on a rocky ledge with a sheer drop of nearly 800m. It is said that in second half of the 8th century, Guru Padmasambhava, alighted here upon the back of a tigress. He mediated for three months in a cave here. And then donning his terrifying form of Dorje Droloe subjugated the evil spirits.

The way down will take much less time.

Day 6: Depart

Breakfast at the hotel. Your guide will accompany you to the airport and wish you safe journey home.
